Respect, Care, and Our Shared Responsibility

Dear OIT,

One of the things that makes the OIT strong is how we show up for each other; not just in what we do, but in how we treat one another. As we continue navigating a complex world, it’s worth pausing to think about the kind of environment we want to protect and grow together.

Notre Dame’s mission calls us to foster human dignity and serve the common good. These values should guide how we work, interact, and support one another. Each of us plays a role in making OIT a place where people feel respected, safe, and able to do their best work.

That includes maintaining psychological safety. It’s not just about being free to share ideas (which is important); it’s also about being aware of how our words might impact others. Sometimes even offhand comments can unintentionally make someone feel out of place. Respect and thoughtfulness help us look out for each other and manifest an environment where we all belong.

Let’s keep doing the work of creating a culture where care and curiosity are part of how we collaborate every day. If you ever have concerns or need help navigating a tough moment, please reach out to your supervisor, an SLT member, or to me.

Thanks for continuing to make this a place where people feel seen, supported, and able to thrive.

All my best,
Jane
