DDI Access Review and EfficientIP Migration

Author: Krista Moats

As part of ongoing modernization efforts and commitment to strengthening the University's security posture, Network Engineering is replacing the current Infoblox DDI (DNS, DHCP, and IP Address Management) platform with EfficientIP (EIP). The anticipated Go-Live with EIP is July 8th.

This migration provides an opportunity to review and modernize how access to DDI services is managed across the University. Over time, permissions within the Infoblox environment have expanded and evolved as roles, responsibilities, and operational requirements changed. As a result, current access assignments no longer consistently reflect business needs and have become increasingly difficult to manage and maintain.

To support the implementation of EfficientIP and align with security best practices, including the principle of least privilege, we will be rebuilding access profiles based on validated operational requirements. This effort will help ensure that individuals have the access necessary to perform their responsibilities while improving security, accountability, auditability, and long-term manageability of our DDI environment.

In the coming weeks, users who currently access Infoblox, NETREG, or related DDI management applications will need to complete a questionnaire requesting information about:

  • Current role and responsibilities

  • Daily operational duties

  • DDI-related functions performed as part of those duties

  • Applications and services used to perform those functions

  • Access levels required to support business operations

View Questionnaire

Your responses will be used to establish accurate access profiles within the new EfficientIP environment and ensure that permissions are aligned with current operational needs.

For most users, the front-end applications and workflows they use today will remain largely unchanged, and access will continue through familiar interfaces such as NETREG. Users with advanced administrative responsibilities or specialized operational requirements may require additional access within EfficientIP. In those cases, the Network Engineering team will work directly with affected individuals and provide any necessary training on the new platform.

Please note that existing access will remain in place during the assessment and up to the anticipated Go-Live date. The purpose of this questionnaire is to ensure a smooth transition to the new platform and to accurately provision access based on current responsibilities. Our goal is to minimize disruption to ongoing operations while establishing a more secure and sustainable access model for the future.

Please complete the questionnaire by the June 30, 2026. Timely responses are critical to ensuring that appropriate access can be provisioned prior to the migration and will help minimize any potential disruption to your work.

This review is an important component of our broader DDI modernization initiative and will help establish a more secure, sustainable, and supportable access model moving forward.

The Network Engineering team appreciates your cooperation and support throughout this effort. If you have any questions regarding the access review or the EfficientIP migration, please contact the Network Engineering team.
